Nine Questions the Diversity
Practitioner Should Ask:
1.
Do I really understand what is meant
by the term diversity?
2.
Do I understand the relationship
between diversity and inclusion? (diversity
is about awareness of and respect for
differences, while inclusion is about
getting the benefit of the differences and
making everyone feel they can contribute and
be included regardless of those differences)
3.
Do I understand and to what extent do
I support affirmative action?
4.
Have I sufficiently recognized,
explored and worked on my own biases?
5.
Are my own behaviors and values
consistent with what I try to bring to
others?
6.
What does diversity have to do with
getting the job done and can I successfully
argue the business case for diversity?
7.
How effectively can I argue that
diversity is more than the flavor of the
month?
8.
How do I know I have had a successful
impact in the organization?
9.
To what extent am I comfortable
discussing the concept of privilege and its
relationship to valuing diversity?
As leaders in the human resources profession
and within our employer organizations, we
promote diversity within our membership,
leadership and guest speakers in order to
eventually reflect the demographics of
greater Omaha.
Key objectives are to:
-
Educate
-
Inform
-
Encourage a consciousness and
understanding of diversity
-
Serve as a resource for members
-
Promote continuous dialogue and action
around diversity issues as a discipline
within human resources
